In my opinion, a floral print dress is a perfect piece to transition into spring, along with many other things. I picked up this particular dress when a sale hit (now sold out) but there are so many other good floral print options that I feel every girl needs a least one in their closet. I love wearing dresses all the time because are easy to wear (being the sole part of your outfit instead of two pieces to put together) and they are quite versatile. As you can see pairing dresses with over the knee boots are a sure thing in the fall/winter, which you can also layer with a faux fur vest or coat to complete a cold weather look. Since winter in Texas means a slight chill in the air, sometimes layering isn’t always needed so I just settled for a little leg warmth by wearing the over the knee boots. However, I love pairing dresses with ankle boots (see these cute ones I just snagged, the details are everything and perfect for spring!) and a denim jacket for spring. If you’re looking for further options on styling dresses try: throwing a sweater over top to appear as a skirt, wearing over jeans like a street style pro, tucking into a skirt to appear as a top, or adding a leather jacket for something edgy. Of course you can also check out two other ways I’ve worn dresses here for an office to happy hour look and how I wore different velvet dresses three ways. I cannot wait to take this beauty of a dress into spring/summer! Spring is one of my favorite seasons because it’s not too cold anymore and not too hot yet, which can be brutal in Texas. Whenever the weather gets like that, all you can basically wear is light weight dresses or your bathing suit. However, I leave you with one final tip if you are going to wear a flowy dress on a breezy day…wear the right underwear (or any at all) to cover your goodies! I made the mistake when wearing this dress and the wind decided it was a good time to go full blown so that I could show what I’m working with to all the people driving by and construction workers building next to where I was at the time. My dress practically flew to my chin but thankfully I’m a good sport, had a heck of a good laugh, and screamed “I’m gone with the wind fabulous!” Although, maybe this is how I got sick recently, my dress blew something crazy into my system as I laughed and now I’m suffering at home with a tissue box. Not so fabulous anymore but I’m a fighter! I hope y’all have a wonderful weekend!
Ever since I could remember I have always bought things I loved in multiples, like one in every color type of gal. My mom obviously knows this as well because when she saw me loving my red plaid vest (worn this post) she knew she had to buy me the blue one as a Christmas gift. After seeing these puffer vests worn by everyone every year I never realized how I much I would love them for myself, but then again who doesn’t love a good plaid piece. This exact puffer vest is more on the high price side but its something that sticks around year after year and worth the investment. I think it could be a perfect transition into spring piece as well since its not heavy weight and great to layer. I’m a big fan of pops of color within an outfit so I decided to make this plaid vest and gold ankle boots the statement pieces, therefore I went all black (gold) elsewhere. If I’m not doing a matchy-matchy color scheme, it’s most likely a look with a pop of print or color. If you cannot fit one of these vests in your budget, try searching for one on sites like Poshmark, where you can get a similar option for less. That route always works for me because so many people sell exact or similar options, and in sometimes perfect condition, so I make sure to keep my options open when shopping. Another thing I do if I really want something that is a bit too expensive for my ramen noodle budget is to get rid of (sell on apps like Poshmark, etc.) pieces to replace what I want. Out with the old, in with the new right? Speaking of…how is everyone doing with their new yearly goals, was one of them to work on a closet refresh? If so, let me know if I could help you in any way or if you would love to see more of that on the blog discussing making extra cash to sell those pieces from your closet purge! I got you boo!
What do you think of when you read those words, keep on dreamin’? Do you think of it as a way to tell those people hollering at you to keep on dreaming because they can’t ever have you ha, or do you think of your hopes and dreams, especially with the start of the new year? I definitely thought of the latter and have been thinking hard about the goals I want to achieve going forward this year. I remember being a little kid with so many big dreams and never thought that at almost 31 years old I would be where I am today or have lived such life or didn’t get to where I had imagined I would be at this age. Sure I’ve had set backs where things didn’t exactly go as I planned (in all the planners I love to buy at Target), but above all I’m happy and blessed to still be alive and living it each day. Last year one door closed in my life that led to me open my eyes to a door that was wide open. Funny how it happens that way, right? Without going through door number 2, I wouldn’t have been able to do so many amazing things last year or going forward. Taking risks can really be rewarding it turns out. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not always sunshine and butterflies but a positive mind leads to a positive life. Let me tell you something, keep on dreaming even if your dreams seem silly to others and go for what deep down your heart desires. Life is too short to keep worrying about what everyone else thinks because at the end of the day you live that life, no one else, so do it the way you want. Then, hustle that booty to get where you need and show all the naysayers they were wrong about you. I remember all the times I broke down crying because my life wasn’t going as planned and I watched everyone else win, thinking when am I going to win, yet I was the one sitting there crying instead of putting my big girl pants on to go get what my heart was pounding about inside. Good things come to those who hustle remember. Then there was always that fear of failure…but let me tell you, all that does is literally push you further away from killing it on top. Don’t let your dreams stay as dreams, go live them, you are the only road block. Okay, enough motivational speaking for today as my dream has never been to be a preacher, just wanted to share some “food for thought” while sharing this amazing cardigan. What goals did you set for 2017? I think I made goals for all of life’s categories like health, wealth, travel, happiness, etc. One thing is for sure….this year I’m going to keep on dreaming…dreaming about my dreams, ways to keep pushing myself even further, and all the goals I will crush.
I hope you’re ready to make 2017 the best year ever, I know I’m so excited!
I’ll be back to outfit posts next week, however today I just wanted to share another roundup of some daily Instagram favorites (aside from blog outfits), most from 2016 and then a few new ones from 2017. If you haven’t already, you can easily shop what I post/wear daily on my Instagram right here on the blog by checking the SHOP tab on the menu above, then under the drop down menu click on MY INSTAGRAM. What would love to see more of this year on the “gram” or the blog?
This will be my last post for 2016 on the blog and I’m ending it on a sassy note with this laced up shirtdress look. You have to go out with a bang, am I right? The lace up style has been all the rage this season so when I found this chambray denim lace up dress I was all about it. With the edgy neckline I decided to pair the dress with my favorite heeled over the knee boots and let me tell you, I feel like I could wear this look everyday. I actually went to go Christmas shopping in this look after I snapped some pictures and debated changing at first and then thought you know what, who cares because all that matters is I feel damn good wearing this outfit right now. I originally felt that way because we were going to be in a casual environment and I was nervous about the stares/under breath comments about my somewhat “sexy” look but confidence hit me instead. Exuding that instead may bring different kind of stares or comments like “wow, she looks good” or “I love her outfit”. So next year I hope I wear more confidence on my sleeve and whip my hair back and forth in the process.2016 was a whirlwind of a year for me and I have a gut instinct that 2017 is going to be one of those great years I thoroughly enjoy. This year I turned 30, went through a long term breakup, traveled the world (Mexico, London, Dublin, Spain, Los Angeles, Atlanta, 11 other states on a two week cross USA road trip- check out my travel diary tab at the top of the blog for some reviews), met so many amazing virtual friends, finished my Master’s Degree, and QUIT MY JOB/CAREER to pursue other passions. A year with both ups and downs but good nonetheless. I have so many goals for myself next year and next week I hope to share more of that with y’all. I want to end by saying I am so grateful for all the love and support I get for this blog, thank you so much for continuing to follow me on this journey. I hope next year I can continue to grow even further and work ten times harder for my dreams to be a reality. I plan on spending my New Years Eve on my friends couch drinking wine in my pajamas and then having a New Years brunch/Sunday Funday. I wish y’all the happiest New Year and hope 2017 is the bomb dot com for you as well. XO!
Although I live in a place where it’s hot 10 times more than cold, I’ve always wanted a really cool faux fur jacket. Naturally I gravitated towards this one when I saw it was burgundy because that color has been giving me life this season. Unfortunately this particular one just sold out online (check for restocks!) but I know the exact one is available in store and I’ve also shared a few similar favorites. I decided to swing on the more casual side with this look being in my distressed skinny jeans but I love that the jacket adds a bit of chic to it. Not only does it give me that bold pop of color I love but it’s actually quite cozy and comfortable. If you don’t own a statement faux fur jacket yet, add it to your list of must haves, however just make sure it is actually wearable. This particular one doesn’t itch so I can wear it all day without eagerly wanting to remove it and it doesn’t scream over the top, like some faux fur jackets or coats do. Being as bold as it is, I wanted to keep the rest of the look simple in all black so the jacket was the focal point. I love the versatility in that it can also be just as fabulous over a dress for a glam cozy look, edgy here in all black, or casual with jeans and flat sandals. It even has pockets so that means it’s even more of a winner in my book. Pockets add 10 points on the must have factor scale in my opinion. Well if you don’t own a statement jacket like such in your wardrobe, I hope I’ve inspired you to add one to go with everything else you probably already have like distressed denim and booties. Easy casual winter look or the perfect pairing for a girls night out with a glass of wine (or two)…check.
Want to wear something fancy for that New Years party but don’t want to wear a dress this time around, how about some sequin embellished leggings? They are perfect for your fancy occasion without freezing your legs off! Surprisingly these ones are comfortable and the outside velvet is so soft, with even the waistband being velvet. Honestly the sequins are one thing but then to also be velvet gives these leggings double points. I’m clearly a lover of velvet right now (and who isn’t) as you can tell in this post where I showed the ways I wore three different velvet dresses. This year I decided I’m going to chill inside with my friends for a wine night in pajamas to ring in the New Year but if I last minute decide to change it I know what I’m wearing to party. Instead of a flashy dress, I would change it up with these statement pants and party feeling comfortable chic. However regardless of a New Years party, I would wear this look to another fun event and can even wear this outfit without the fur vest for a girls night out. No bling jewelry necessary with these leggings.
Unfortunately these exact leggings just sold out but I shared a few similar options to easily replicate this outfit. With it being colder I paired this look with a long sleeve top and faux fur vest, which is simple enough to still let the pants be the statement but also equally chic. This faux fur vest has been one of my favorite purchases I’ve had for years and I definitely think it should be one everyone invests in for the fall/winter seasons. White is perfect for a winter look and fur vests are necessary for warmth but also they go with so many outfits, casual or chic. So what do you think of the sequin leggings? At first when I saw them around I didn’t think I would love as much but after caving in to try, I have to say they are much better than they appear. I thought they would be too much but they are actually a lot of fun to wear! What is your New Years look going to be…would you wear sequin pants or rather stick to a sequin dress? Before I end I want to wish y’all a happy holiday with Christmas being in two days, OMG! I hope you enjoy every moment with your family/friends, get what you want for Christmas, and get some time to relax. XO!
I am a huge lover of a really good sweater dress for fall or winter. I would say I wear dresses as much as jeans because they are so comfortable and easy to wear. A sweater dress takes it up a notch on the comfort/cozy level, therefore I want to wear them all season long. I’m on the hunt to add a few more different styles into my wardrobe but this olive green one sweater dress is a good start. First, I love the color, perfect for the fall/winter and I don’t own too much in this color. The rib knit material has some stretch but what immediately drew me into this one was the style of it. I love that instead of being all one piece, it has a top layer that goes over the dress to break it up. It adds nice dimension but also makes it appear a lot less body hugging. The neckline is nice too being a little higher but not quite turtleneck so it’s really a simple chic. I paired this with a dainty necklace but it would be just as nice with a bold statement piece as well. Being practically winter I added some “winter white” accessories and threw on some ankle boots because I love a dress and boot combination. Now I know some of you might be freezing looking at me while it’s snowing in your backyard, but this sweater dress can go further then this simple baring look. First it has a good thickness to it for warmth and it’s long sleeves so that helps too. Keep with ankle boots and add tights or swap them for over the knee boots (in this beautiful camel color) instead, ditch the hat for beanie with a fur pom, wrap around with a blanket scarf in cool pattern over top the solid dress, or opt for a coat with a fur trim. Winter ready in the perfect sweater dress!
Don’t you just love plaid? I mean, I don’t think I have met anyone that isn’t a fan but I’m sure there is someone out there. If so, hopefully they aren’t reading this post where I’m rocking this plaid vest like I just stepped out of a J.Crew catalog. Well, I wish I did but I’ll just play pretend in my plaid quilted puffer vest (okay it’s really a tartan print but whose getting technical here). I’m also feeling somewhat “lumberjack chic” in this look but I can dig it, you have to switch it up from time to time. The weather has been on and off cold here in Texas so some days calls for heavy pieces while others call for light layers. This mustard yellow sweater is more on the thinner side so if it’s freezing where you live, this makes for a great layering piece. I think it would be cute with a topper camel coat but still having the vest underneath for contrast and depth. Also adding a buttoned shirt underneath the sweater and adding a scarf/beanie! I went for simple and light for this look but with this good plaid vest, more possibilities await!I have these over the knee suede boots also in the gray color, which shows how much I love them. They are fitted just right without sliding down and come with the perfect chunky heel, which makes them easier to walk in. I am on the hunt now for a great non-sliding suede pair that has a flat heel, so hoping Santa checked my list twice! I cannot believe Christmas is so close by the way, it feels like just yesterday it was summer time and now we are already headed into the new year. I am really excited about the fresh start of a year, aren’t you? I have so many goals/plans and have a gut feeling this year will be good to me. How do you feel about Christmas quickly approaching, I’m not quite done with my shopping yet, but I’m excited about spending time with my family. What are your holiday plans or what about the new year, I plan on ringing that in ultra chill mode this year with friends…couch, pizza, pajamas, and wine. Perfection, right?
Today is more picture heavy than I normally do but I wanted to share some fun ways I wore three different velvet dresses, holiday party ready! Velvet has been such a big trend this season, and depending on your style, I may be wearing a velvet dress that is perfect for you. The first is strapless, the second is sleeveless, and the third is long sleeve. Since some of the dresses are selling out, I linked a few similar options at bottom of post if you are on the hunt for a velvet piece.Strapless Velvet Dress | Burgundy Strappy Bow Platform Heels | Black Velvet Choker | Gold Cuff | Velvet Clutch, only $26!
If you are a lover of velvet, why not go crazy with it and pair velvet with velvet with velvet? When I scooped up these burgundy velvet platform heels (half off right now!) I couldn’t wait to wear them, so finding this strapless dress I knew I had to pair them together for fun. Searching for accessories to pair with the look, I thought ah why not go all the way and have a velvet party, so I grabbed my velvet clutch and velvet choker for an all out fun look. I mean does this not scream party ready?Sleeveless Velvet Dress: Old Navy (similar) | Gold Jacquard Open Front Jacket | Gold Leather Booties: Topshop (almost exact/similar) | Gold Y Chain Necklace | Black Clutch: The Limited (similar, only $25!)
Now this velvet dress is actually sleeveless but I decided to pair it with this gold embroidered jacquard jacket that just screams holiday. What’s great is you can still wear alone or if you wanted to take velvet to the office, this look is perfect. The dainty necklace doesn’t take away from the jacket since that is the statement piece but is a nice touch if you wanted to take off the jacket. I went with boots for this look to change it up from heels but this outfit can easily transition from the office with heels to happy hour with the gals after work switching into boots. Long Sleeve Velvet Dress | Silver Leather Slip-on Backless Loafers | Silver Fringe Chain Collar Necklace | Faux Fur Clutch: Zara (similar, only $29!)
Last but not least, this long sleeve velvet winner of a dress is perfect for keeping you somewhat warm since the legs are exposed. However it can still be paired with tights to help with more warmth. In Texas it is not extremely cold yet so I can easily get away with wearing this long sleeve number around town. I wanted to show off the sleeves for this look so I went with a statement necklace and faux fur clutch. I wanted to look chic but casual for this outfit so I decided to go with flats that don’t scream casual if you know what I mean. This open back loafer trend is hot right now as well and these loafers didn’t break the bank (only $25 on sale!) so I went for it. If you want to go to a holiday party but hate to be in heels all night or simply want to switch into flats later, you have yourself the perfect outfit.
Here are a few other similar options for velvet dresses….what look would you wear this holiday season? What do you plan on wearing for New Years?
